Why Does My IGET Taste Burnt, and How to Fix It

A burnt taste means the wick is firing dry. On a brand new IGET the fix is standing it upright for a few minutes so the cotton saturates. Mid-life, the cause is chain vaping, hard draws or heat. Near the end, a burnt taste with a weak draw means the liquid is finished and the device is done. A burnt taste from the very first day points at a counterfeit.

What a Burnt Hit Actually Is

The coil in every IGET is wrapped in cotton that feeds it liquid. When the cotton runs dry where it touches the coil, the heat scorches cotton instead of vaporising liquid, and that scorched note is the burnt hit. Once cotton is properly charred it does not recover, which is why the aim is prevention: keep the wick wet, and stop puffing the moment something tastes wrong rather than powering through. Every cause below is a different way the wick ends up dry.

A Brand New IGET That Tastes Burnt

Devices travel on their sides and get shaken in transit, so the wick can arrive patchily saturated. Stand a new device upright for five to ten minutes before the first puff, then open with short, gentle draws rather than a long hard one. That single habit prevents most first-day burnt hits on a Bar 3500 or any other model in the range. If a new device still tastes burnt after resting upright, stop using it and get in touch with your order number.

Chain Vaping and Hard Draws

Between puffs, liquid has to soak back through the cotton to the coil. Chain vaping never gives it the chance, so each hit fires a slightly drier wick until one scorches. Long hard pulls do the same thing faster, because they vaporise more liquid than the wick can resupply. The fix costs nothing: shorter, slower draws with a few seconds between them. As a bonus, that is also how you get closest to the rated puff count, as the puffs guide explains.

Running It Empty

Near the end of a device's life, a burnt taste alongside weaker vapour is not a fault, it is the finish line. The wick is drying out because there is no liquid left to feed it. On rechargeable models like the Bar Pro this ending is unambiguous, since the battery is still strong when the flavour dies. Do not keep puffing a device that only produces burnt hits; there is nothing left to vaporise and nothing to gain.

Heat Makes Everything Worse

Heat thins the liquid, which sounds helpful but is not: thin liquid floods the coil when the device is warm, then leaves the wick drier when it cools, and the swing produces both gurgling and burnt hits from the same device in one day. A car in an Australian summer is the classic culprit. Store devices indoors, upright, out of direct sun, and never in a glovebox. The habit matters more the further north you live.

Burnt From Day One: The Counterfeit Tell

Counterfeit IGETs use cheaper cotton and sloppier coil assembly, and the result is a device that burns intermittently from the first day no matter how gently it is drawn. If a bar tastes scorched from new, was bought cheap over a counter, and its scratch code will not verify as unused, the burnt taste is the least of its problems. The authenticity guide walks through the checks in order.

Frequently asked

Why does my new IGET taste burnt?

The wick arrived unevenly saturated from transit. Stand the device upright for five to ten minutes and start with short gentle draws. If it still burns after that, stop using it and contact us with your order number.

Can a burnt IGET coil fix itself?

Lightly dry cotton recovers if you rest the device a few minutes. Properly scorched cotton does not, and every hit after will carry the taste. Prevention is the only real fix.

Should I keep puffing through a burnt hit?

No. Stop, let the device rest upright, and try a gentle draw a few minutes later. If every puff is burnt, the liquid is finished or the wick is charred, and either way continuing gains nothing.

Does turbo mode on the IGET One cause burnt hits?

It raises output, which pushes the wick harder, so chain vaping in turbo will find the limit sooner. Used with normal pacing it is fine; left on permanently it shortens the device's life and invites dry hits.
